ChatGPT: The All-Knowing Crystal Ball

“If one thing had been different, would everything be different today?”
“Is it romantic how all my elegies eulogize me?”
“What must it be like to grow up that beautiful?”

Taylor Swift poses many questions without answers in her songs! Maybe if she had ChatGPT she would have had some!

What Is ChatGPT?

This year’s first buzzword has taken the world by a storm so big that it got banned in Egypt! ChatGPT is a large language model chatbot developed by OpenAI. It’s basically an all-knowing answer machine except that it sounds exactly like a person. You might be thinking “so Google?!” No. It’s not like Google or any search engine because like I said, it’s a conversational AI chatbot so it’s not spitting answers mechanically. Most importantly, it has no access to the internet.

How does it work?

The technology behind is both scary and exciting. ChatGPT is trained to understand what humans mean when they ask questions.

Does it understand sarcasm? Can it make jokes? Can it understand questions like the one with the filler word like that is not like like?! I don’t know, like I said it’s banned in Egypt. I tried to use it through VPN, but because so many people are using it, I’ve been on a waiting list for a few days and can’t access it. So try it if you can and let us know!

To help ChatGPT learn and develop human-like dialogue, it was trained on huge amounts of code-related data and information from the internet, and sources like Reddit threads. A technique called Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF) was used so that the AI learned what humans expected when they asked a question. That’s why I do think it can crack a joke!

So what can it do?

Well, almost. It’s true that it can find an error in a code, fix it for you, and even tell you what was wrong, and why - exactly like a human would. It can even write you a code for whatever you need. That resume cover letter you hate? Make up a song for you? Need help with an essay (or even write one), grammar, mathematics, physics, or whatever you’re studying? It’s got you covered!

You can even chat with it like you would a friend! It can help you plan a party, write a personal letter for you (ironically!), play tic-tac-toe, create a book/movie plotline, and even an AD. In fact, it did just that when I couldn’t use it because of the overbearing traffic!

Mr. Perfect?

Believe it or not, even a know-it-all is not perfect. It comes with its limitation which it may or may not overcome in the future and I don’t know where I stand on that! One thing is that it’s not always correct even though it can be very convincing. Because it is trained to give human-like answers, the answers can trick humans that they’re correct. I mean check this out:

I mean it does sound like something a man would say instead of “I don’t know!”

Another thing – which is not a limitation per se – is that it is not allowed to give any answers that may cause harm.

Right now, anyone can use it for free. However, that is not gonna be the case for long. So if you can, you better try it out now!
